Trustee Shriners Hospitals for Children®

|
W. Brandt Bede, M.D., of Tacoma, Wash., is currently serving his third three-year term on the Shriners Hospitals for Children® Board of Trustees. He was re-elected during the Shriners’ 2008 annual international convention – or Imperial Council Session – held in St. Louis June 29-July 3. He also serves as chairman of the Clinical and Basic Research Committee.
Dr. Bede served on the Spokane Shriners Hospitals for Children® Board of Governors in 1991 and 1992 and the Portland hospital’s Board of Governors 1994 through 2002, serving as chairman the last three years of his term.
An orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Bede received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Washington and his Doctorate of Medicine and Master of Surgery Degree from McGill University. He completed his internship at Presbyterian Medical Center and his surgical residency at St. Joseph Medical Center in Denver, and his orthopaedic residency at Montreal General and Montreal Children’s Hospitals. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Canada, the American Board of Surgery and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Born in Tacoma, Dr. Bede served in the U.S. Naval Reserve Medical Corps in Orlando, Fla. He is a member of Tacoma Rotary #8, and he has been a member of the YMCA’s Camp Seymour, Metro and Foundation boards, as well as the Western Forest Industrial Museum board.
A Past Potentate of Afifi Shriners, Dr. Bede has been an active member in the fraternity since he became a Shriner in 1966. He is a member of Morton Lodge #209, F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite, Royal Arch Masons, Royal and Select Masters, Knights Templar, Red Cross of Constantine and Royal Order of Jesters.
Dr. Bede and his wife, Leslie, have five children, Jeffrey, Christopher, Samantha, Sierra and Alexandra.
