Applying to Volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering, you should complete a volunteer application.
Make sure you let us know exactly when you are available to volunteer;
we must often match volunteers to specific time slots. It's therefore
in your best interest to choose several available time slots; but rest
assured we will only look for you to volunteer up to about two hours a
week. We will contact you to schedule an interview if an opportunity is
available that fits your schedule and interests.
Student Volunteers
- Students are required to complete a 40-hour commitment before Shriners will verify required service learning hours.
- Students must be 16 years or older to work directly with patients.
- Students may volunteer only up to 2 hours per week during the school year.
- Students with more than two unexcused absences may be dropped from the program.
Group Volunteers
There are several ways for
small and large groups to get involved at the hospital on an occasional
basis. These opportunities do not require the same testing and training
as regular volunteer jobs. If you are interested in organizing a group
volunteer opportunity please contact Kally Schneider
to discuss your group’s interest. Some group volunteer activities
include gardening and assisting with major hospital events. Schedules
vary and many activities are seasonal, occurring in the summer.
Shriners also accepts groups who are interested in providing
entertainment for patients and their families. Interested groups should
contact the recreation therapy department at (773) 385-5588 to plan such activities.
