Information for Patients and Families

Shriners Hospitals for Children provides pediatric specialty care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. Children up to age 18 are eligible for admission to Shriners Hospitals for Children if, in the opinion of our physicians, there is a reasonable possibility they can benefit from the specialized services available. Acceptance is based solely on a child’s medical needs. A family's income or insurance status are not criteria for a child's acceptance as a patient. All services are provided at no charge—regardless if financial need or relationship to a Shriner.

Visitors to Shriners Hospital

Visits from family and friends can make a hospital stay seem shorter and brighten a patient's day. Daily visiting hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Visitors may pick up a pass at the front lobby desk.

Visitor's Regulations

  • All visitors under the age of 16 must be supervised by an adult at all times.
  • Only 2 visitors per patient (excluding parents/legal guardians) are allowed on the patient unit at one time.
  • When two or more visitors are present, we ask that they take turns, using the main lobby or cafeteria between visits. A visiting brother or sister must be accompanied by one parent/legal guardian.
  • Children in hospital are more susceptible to infections, thus a visitor with a cold or infection should wait until the condition has improved before visiting.
  • Visitors who are disorderly or who do not observe hospital regulations will be escorted from the hospital by a security guard and refused subsequent visiting privileges.
  • Alcoholic beverages, weapons, or illegal drugs are not permitted. Any visitor who brings these items to the hospital will be escorted out by a security guard and may be refused subsequent visiting privileges.

Parent and Guardian Visitors

One parent or guardian may stay 24 hours per day. Parents staying overnight must first check with the nursing division or Care Coordination/Family Services if staying in Parent Housing.
