Shine for the Shrine

Runners and walkers of all levels are invited to join employees and friends of Shriners Hospitals for Children Northern California on the Shine for the Shrine San Francisco Marathon Team.

Team members will participate in the San Francisco Marathon on Sunday, August 3, 2008, as either runners or walkers. Participants may choose their event – the 26.2-mile marathon or the 13.1-mile half-marathon.

In addition to the opportunity to train with a motivated group of individuals, each Shine for the Shrine participant agrees to raise a minimum of $500 to make a positive difference in the lives of children served by Shriners Hospitals for Children- Northern California. Anyone 15 or older is invited to join the team.

Team organizer is Nicky Johnson, a nurse at the Northern California Shriners Hospital. “I like to do a community service project each year, and I thought organizing a marathon team would be a fun way to raise public awareness and funds for Shriners Hospitals,” says Johnson, who was introduced to Shriners unique brand of care when her daughter was a Shriners Hospital patient.
