About the Board of Governors
The Board of Governors has been delegated the duty of the general
oversight of the hospital, the Administrator for the day to day
operations of the hospital, and the Chief of Staff for the medical care
of patients by the Board of Trustees. The primary duties of the Board of Governors are:
- Select and retain a competent Administrator.
- Confirm the hospital's long- and short-term objectives and insure
that operating policies are in place to achieve these objectives in a
legal and sound manner.
- Review reports submitted by the Administrator and the Chief of
Staff in order to effectively monitor operations to insure that they
are adequate and in compliance with applicable laws and policies of the
Shriners Hospitals for Children.
- Insures that the hospital helps to meet the needs of the children who come to us for care.
The Board of Governors functions through a group of assigned
committees which review closely all items provided for consideration.
Members of the Board are volunteers; they serve without compensation or
remuneration. An individual may serve up to nine years as a member of
the Board.
Shriners from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Alabama, and Missouri
represent 19 different Shrine Centers on Galveston's Board of
Governors. The Board meets the fourth Monday of every month (except
November and December), at the hospital. If you are a Shriner and are
interested in attending a board meeting, please contact the Board
Member representing your Shrine Center, or contact the hospital
administration at 713-770-6600.
