With national health care reform a hot topic these days, U.S. Sen. Robert Casey (D-PA) came to Erie on Aug. 31 to discuss the issue with his constituents at a public forum and to tour the Shriners Hospitals for Children— Erie.

During his visit to the hospital, Sen. Casey was given a tour of the facility by Hospital Administrator Charles Walczak, and had an opportunity to speak with staff and patients. The senator also held one-on-one meetings with three local families with children who are receiving treatment at the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Erie.

The families told the senator about the positive experiences they have had with the hospital and its staff, and how important the medical care has been for their children.

In interviews with local television reporters, Sen. Casey emphasized the important role Shriners Hospitals for Children has within the community and complimented the staff on the excellent care they provide to thousands of children each year.
