Shriners Hospitals for Children- Chicago Issues Visitor Restrictions for Flu SeasonOctober 29, 2009 Because of increasing flu activity in our community and the risk of transmission from visitors to patients and staff, hospital visitor restrictions are in effect as of Wednesday, October 28, 2009. Shriners Hospitals for Children - Chicago is following many preventive measures as recommended by the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) to reduce the spread of influenza. These restrictions are intended to protect the health of our patients, their families and our staff. The H1N1 flu is different from the regular flu because it targets young people. People can be contagious with an illness before they show signs or symptoms of being sick. Restrictions include the following:
