Emergent Pediatric Burn Care Course
This free lecture and PowerPoint focuses on the emergent treatment of the pediatric burn patient. The course is designed for first responders, EMT’s, firefighters, paramedics, nurses, physicians, and health care professionals.
Student Nurse Lecture Series
This free lecture series provides an opportunity for students in the health care profession to learn about the state-of- the-art pediatric burn care provided by Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Lecture Objectives
- Describe the incidences and etiologies of burn injuries
- Review the anatomy and physiology of the largest organ of the body – the skin
- Describe burn wounds in terms of size
- Describe the characteristics of the depth determination of a burn injury
- Review the coloration differentiation in burn wounds
- Describe the pathophysiology and treatment of fluid loss
- Review the Advanced Burn Life Support management of the critically burned child

Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
The goal of this American Heart Association Course is to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children.

Health Career Presentation for High School Students
This program is for high school students interested in pursuing a career in the health care industry. The program consists of a 30 minute presentation by a member of the hospital staff, and a tour of the hospital by a Shriner volunteer. This program is offered in the spring and fall. Limited space is available.
